Unveiling Uttarakhand: The Land of Gods and Breathtaking Beauty
Uttarakhand, also revered as "Devbhoomi" or "Land of Gods," is a tapestry woven from two magnificent regions: Garhwal and Kumaon. Together, they boast 13 diverse districts.
Garhwal: This region encompasses Chamoli, Dehradun (the winter capital), Haridwar, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, and Uttarkashi.
Kumaon: This area comprises Almora, Champawat, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Udham Singh Nagar, and the picturesque Nainital.
Uttarakhand's breathtaking natural beauty has earned it a place among India's most stunning states. Each region boasts a unique topography and landscape. In fact, Mahatma Gandhi, upon his first visit, famously called it the "Switzerland of India"!
Beyond its scenic splendor, Uttarakhand holds immense spiritual significance. It's the birthplace of the Ganges, India's holiest river. Originating from Gaumukh in Gangotri, the Ganges embarks on a 2,525 km (1,569 miles) journey through the heart of India, flowing south and east through the Gangetic plains before meeting the Bay of Bengal. Along its path, countless Hindus gather to bathe in its holy waters, seeking purification and blessings from the Goddess Ganga.
